The year was 1949, and PRO-Keds stepped onto the scene, inspired by the emergence of professional basketball and pickup games on the streets of New York. The iconic classics once graced the feet of basketball stars in the 1970s and ultimately attained cult status as the first real sneaker with style among the leaders of New York City’s revolutionary cultural change. It was a time before Williamsburg was cool and the Lower East Side was a cultural mecca. Today, PRO-Keds is the same as it was in 1949. The distinctive red and blue power stripe on the midsole represent a mix of old school rules with contemporary.
